A brief history
Flathus Gård in Redalen, in southern Norway, has been owned by the Flathus family since 1853. At that time, Olav Flathus bought the farm with the intention of starting a family there. He expanded the farm by acquiring additional land and buildings, and supported his family through sheep farming and forestry.
In 2003, it was time for a generational handover. Ola Flathus, as the eldest son, took over the farm from his parents. Under Norwegian law, an heir is obliged to manage the farm on a permanent basis for at least five years. The farm was maintained and run in the traditional way. Today, it is no longer an active farm. The family uses it as a retreat. Renting it out as a holiday home is therefore an ideal way to help preserve it.
